Kate je textový editor s viacerými dokumentmi a viacerými zobrazeniami od KDE. Obsahuje veci ako skladanie kódu, zvýraznenie syntaxe, dynamické zalamovanie slov, vstavanú konzolu, rozsiahle rozhranie doplnkov a predbežnú podporu skriptovania.
